Blog: FCAR Speakout

Support open, broad-based assessment of learning -- contribute to FCAR.

I am a parent in Brevard County, and am very much in favor of dropping the FCAT ( or any other type of assessment testing). My kids both are going through grades four and eight this year, and the only thing they have heard of is FCAT WRITES! I am so sick of the FCAT's that I can't even see straight.

My son, who's in fourth, has done nothing but study for this one test all year long. He has been so paranoid about not passing, that he hasn't been sleeping, and didn't want to go to school about a week before FCAT Writes started. Why must our children go through such hell just to go on to the next grade?!!!!!!!! They aren't learning anything except for one test all year long. Even one of our school board members failed the FCAT WRITES, yet they still expect our children to go through this torture. Why?

I feel that it is high time to get rid of this testing, along with any other testing that they want to start. In case they can read, Florida ranks along the bottom of the country, because so much emphasis is placed on this one test.
